How It Works?
There has been much talk in the news lately about mediation and since April 6, 2011 all divorcing and separating couples will be referred to mediation to try and settle any disputes before being allowed go to court. You can read a news item on the BBC website by clicking here.
Although many people agree that mediation is certainly preferable to court proceedings, they have misgivings. We encourage anyone who has any doubts to call us on 01793 527285 and we can discuss their concerns and do our best to reassure that the process is both supportive and fair to all parties.
A frequent comment we hear is “I am sure my ex-partner will not come to mediation”. Our answer to this is that it is always worth a try. Here at mediationplus, we will send a letter inviting them to a FREE individual meeting with one of our qualified mediators to discuss any concerns they may have about the process and any issues they would want to raise in future sessions. Once reassured, many people agree to follow-up sessions. Everyone coming to mediation for the first time is entitled to a free separate meeting, although couples can attend this initial session together if they wish.
We also realise in any situation requiring mediation there can be anger and resentment. So much so that people simply refuse to sit in the same room. This can be overcome and is a situation we have handled many times in the past. Each person involved in mediation can sit in a separate room and our mediators are trained to move between the rooms calmly and accurately relaying the conversation. Being able to carry out the process in ‘real time’ is an aid to quicker resolution.
mediationplus provides a safe, impartial and confidential service to help resolve conflict and provide agreement.
